The latex layer contains anthraquinone glycosides causing vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and tremors. The inner gel is less toxic but the whole plant should be kept out of reach.

The latex layer beneath the skin contains toxic compounds. Cats who chew on leaves may experience vomiting, diarrhea, and depression. Keep plants away from cats.
